2Sa 6:6 And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. 2Sa 6:7 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.
These things were written for our instruction! We cant just have good intentions, we have to OBEY His Word, not changing the meaning to fit our own whims. If we dont, the results can be and probably will be much different than we think. The actions and result of Uzzah should be a sober reminder of this. To obey is better than sacrifice!

I've always wondered how much responsibility David had for the ark being placed on a cart. We know that the ark was to be carried by means of the staves (Exodus 25:14-15; Numbers 4:2-6). As the "presiding officer" of the occasion, shouldn't David have known that the ark was not to be placed on a cart? Just something to think about.
