This got me thinking....Given that the 10 tribes has been scattered and that it was Judah and Benjamin taken to Babylon and then allowed to return to the land...... then this means the Jews in the land during the time of Christ must have only (or atleast primarily) been of the tribe of Judah and Benjamin?
I've always been curious as to whether current day Jews could trace their lineage back or not, particularly those of the 10 tribes? This led me to finding this article below from A NON-CHRISTADELPHIAN site regarding Manasseh. Their idea came from a study showing that King Tut's DNA had a chromosome that currently is primarily found in Scottish/Irish DNA. Joseph had married an Egyptian woman and had Manasseh and Ephraim. Their argument is that this DNA from the Egyptian could then be used to trace the lineage of tribe of Manasseh, who they think was scattered but ended up primarily in Ireland and Scottland. All speculation, and I'm not forsure I buy this, but I would like to hear Any thoughts/rebuttals?

The Scots are the "Macs" or descendants of Machir, also called Makir, the son of Manasseh. There are thousands of McDonalds, and McMullen's and Macs of all kinds with Scottish heritage. It is possible that the word America may come from the Hebrew word Ha-Machiri. Machir literally means "sold." It means capitalism. Not only is Mac(hir) a Scottish thing, the coat of many colors (tartan) given by Jacob to their ancestor Joseph is a proud thing for the Scots.

Descendants of Machir, of Manasseh wear with pride the fine woven tartan, the coat of many colors that Jacob gave Joseph, their ancestor. It was not a rag coat, it was prestigious. And since Joseph married an Egyptian woman, the Scots still proudly wear the Egyptian kilt in honor of their Egyptian heritage as well.
