As most know, Shemei was not killed by David on the return to Jerusalem. But the actions of Shemei cursing the Lord's anointed does not go unpunished. Solomon gives Shemei boundaries and tells him if he leaves his area that he will be killed. Shemei's servant runs away and Shemei thinks that it will not hurt for him to go after the servant, whether he thinks Solomon would not stick with the threat or no one would know he left, we do not know. But when Solomon heard that Shemei had crossed his boundary, he had him executed.
