Jer 26:6 Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.
Recall that Shiloh was the capital under Joshua, where the tribes were divided out by lot. It is also where the ark remained for 450 years.
But, as was common with the Israelites, they turned from Yahweh. Not far from Shiloh, Micah took a levite and made him priest along with a graven image.
They were then taken by the Danites and "they set them up Micah's graven image" at Dan "all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh" (jud 18:31). Later there was the incident of the Levite and his concubine, which led to the near annihilation of Benjamin. The remaining Benjamites then captured daughters of Shiloh to become their wives. Then we have Hannah, Eli, and Samuel. Around this time we read of Eli's sons disobedience resulting in their death. Then the philistines win at battle and take the ark. We arent told exactly what happened to Shiloh, but sounds like it was devastated.
"So again in ch. 26.: “If ye will not hearken . . . then will I make this house like Shiloh.” For this, the priests and prophets and people condemned Jeremiah to death; but their designs were frustrated by God, who fulfilled His word upon Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar, as He had done upon Shiloh by the Philistines. Later on, Jesus himself employed Jeremiah’s phrase, “a den of robbers,” against the temple in his day. He, too, was opposed by priests and people, and put to death, but God again fulfilled His word upon Jerusalem by the Romans."
