In the first verse of Chapter 11 we find the wicked Queen Atheliah killing the royal seed and then reigning seven years over Judah. She is not listed as a ruler because she is not of the linage of David. Joash survived the slaughter of the royal seed and lived with Jehoida the priest for six years and then was crowned King and he reigned forty years. As long as Jehoida the priest was alive, Joash was a good King, but after Jehoida's death he tried pleasing the princes instead of God. He had Jehoida's son killed! He died by the hands of his servants while he was on his bed.
