Through chapter 15 of 2 Kings, some of the Kings of Judah did right in the sight of God. In looking at the 10 tribes, no Kings of Israel did good but did evil in the sight of God. It was not to their advantage to have separated from the Kingdom of God, but that was the plan of God. They didn't have a chance if they worshiped the two calves set up by Jeroboam and led by unbelieving rulers. It is thought that some from the ten tribes left Israel and went to Judah carrying and preserving the the names of their tribes. In verse 29, Israel fights with Assyria and loses many cites, and the people are carried away to Assyria.
