This chapter is after Darius the Mede is in power and Daniel has risen in ranks to the top three of Darius' Officers. God's spirit was with Daniel and Daniel prospered. This did not set well with the other officers and they planned the demise of Daniel by having King Darius give a decree about not worshipping any god but King Darius only. As we know, Daniel refused and worshipped God as always and was thrown in the den of lions. God sent an angel which shut the lions mouths and Daniel was protected. It is also recorded that the King threw the accusers and their wives and children in the lions den. This shows that going against God is dangerous.
