Question: What position do you understand the bowl of Zechariah’s lampstand occupied. Was it on the top? Or did the branches all extend upward from the bowl?
ANSWER.—The bowl was “upon the top of it” (Zech. 4:2), so that the golden oil would flow by gravity to the “seven lamps.” The whole apparatus is the Lightstand of the Spirit in the day of Christ, when the Prophet is awakened by resurrection out of his sleep of death (verse 1). The bowl in particular is Christ, for he is (under God) the source of all, and is above all, the head of the body. Dr. Thomas’ exposition in Eureka, Vol. I., p. 60, is very faithful and beautiful. 1904. The Christadelphian, 41(electronic ed.), 318.
