The following is a quote from a TE brother when asked to comment on whether Gen 1 and 2 were literal or not...
"....a careful reading of Genesis 1 indicates that it is not a chronological diary of events on six consecutive days. It is a poetical representation of the creation of the earth, where the first three days describe the creation of domains and the 4th to 6th days describe the filling of these domains. I believe this reading is how it would have been understood by the original audience (who were not anglo-Saxons of the post industrial west) and is most in harmony with everything God wants us to know about His purpose with the earth (to *fill* it with His glory)."
"Genesis 2 is literal, but is clearly a different creation account to Genesis 1 as the two conflict."
