Reminds me of Psa 23..."Thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil"
So what is the shadow of death?
Have we ever experienced it? I see patients occasionally that are about to die, and they often are aware that their time is limited. They often turn to God (in their own way) and are comforted by it.
The reality is that we are all dying, we all have a death sentence. We are constantly in deaths shadow to some degree while we have sin in the flesh. That's why our hope is in the Lord. That's why we need his rod and staff, his laws and word, to comfort us. We are all dying, and we have only one antidote. But its not a single injection, it requires a constant infusion of "light" that alone can chase away the shadow of death.
