David was asking for God's protection. David was in harms way and most likely this was at the time of Absalom's revolt. David was not only in harms way from his son, but was dealing with the guilt of bringing family trials because of his sins.

In this life, there are always challenges and trials. Sometimes the trial might be that we have no trial, things are too easy. That's why in all matters and all situations, we are to look to God for guidance and support
