It was essential that the light stand, with seven lights, did not go out. The priest were in charge of maintaining the lamps with the pure olive oil, coming from the people. The priest, by Devine order were authorized to do this special function. It was replenished every evening and would burn until the next morning when again the lamps were trimmed. It was a light for all as we too are lights, needing oil and replenishing each day.
