Some (ex Joel Olsteen) teach that if you trust in the Lord, you will be blessed in this life and will flourish and not suffer. They could use verses from this Psalms to argue their point...
Psa 91:10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. Psa 91:11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. Psa 91:12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
However this Psalms applies to Christ of whom we are told Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted Isa 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
So when does this Psalm apply? When Christ was resurrected (and when we are), then "no evil will befall" us.
