The laver was used by the priest to wash their hands and feet required by God before attending the alter or entering the Holy Place. Paul refers to washing, in Eph.5:26. The foot and the laver was made of brass. To obtain brass, women that were spiritually minded and wanted to do their part in God's work, brought their hand mirrors and donated them for the shining brass for the laver. It was those women that had the work of God in mind rather than using their mirrors for themselves. Are we willing to make a similar sacrifice?
