In verses 34 - onward, God through His infinite wisdom knew the consequences with mingling with the unbelievers. Therefore; they were to take them out of the way, destroy them. So that that temptation would not be there. God knew they would be tempted by the alien sons and daughters and strangely by their wooden and stone gods. This is why we must be well acquainted with God's scriptures, and obey Him for He knows what is best for us.
