It seems so strange that right up until Jesus' death that the apostles did not understand that their Lord was to be tried, tortured, crucified and die. We are told it was hid from them. I really don't know why, other than the knowledge would have had such a negative effect and cause them much difficulty and grief. It might have also affected their faith. God knows what we can handle.
