Here it shows Balaam in a favorable light, but we later find him (Nu. 31:8, 16) luring the Israelites into the cult of Baal of Peor (cf. Nu. 25). Because of this, he was killed. He is referred to in the New testament as a warning(2 Pet. 2:15; Jude 11) and of participation in pagan cult and immorality (Rev. 2:14).
2Pe 2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
Jud 1:11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
