16. Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.
17. For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.
18. Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
19. And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.
I think this references Judas Ischariot and the field that was purchased with the money he betrayed Jesus with.
Matthew references it in ch 27
I dont see a reference in Mark
I also did dont find a reference in Luke
and didnt see any reference in John
Do you think Peter was making intercession for Judas? Telling them "it had to be done"
And the record in Matt. says Judas hanged himself not that his guts came out.
The references in psalms are these
Psalm 41:9
Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, Which did eat of my bread, Hath lifted up his heel against me.
Psalm 69:25
Let their habitation be desolate; And let none dwell in their tents.
But it doesnt say at least anywhere I can find that a man fell and his guts came out. in that field
18. Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
unless this verse is talking about such a dramatic drop from being hanged that his guts came out.
Tying this in with our second reading it reminds me of what Solomon said about being alone
8. There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.
I looked up vanity and it can mean pride or futility and both can fit in many of the verses in Ecc.
