Most of the mosaic law was a shadow. I suspect the dealings with a servant is similar:
Deu 15:12 And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee.
Deu 15:16 And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee; Deu 15:17 Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.
For 6 years, years of probation, the Hebrew served, because they had to. But on the 7th year, those who truly loved the master, could willingly become a permanent member of his household. This was formally arranged by piercing the ear with an aul on the doorpost.
One can easily see the correlation between the 6 days probation, and the 7th with a connection with the kingdom, being attached to the master because we love the master....but what do you think the aul in the ear represents?

I would think it represents having the mark of Christ in us , when I read this I thought of Joel because he has been marked by me sort of , I have a picture of him with permanent marker on his hand , he wrote Richard owns me , LOL , any way it is interesting it was thrust through to the door , which would have probably left blood on the door , I don't know may be a stretch but I think of the Passover , these servants were passed over and not sent away , same as we want at the judgement seat , passed over and not sent back to the world , but chosen as true servants.
