Most learn quickly and dont repeatedly touch an electric fence. If only we could get a shock when we started getting off the strait and narrow. We would learn quickly. The problem is, that its often just the opposite, its often pleasurable. And because of that, once we experience it, we are often more likely to do it again, like a drug.
So what keeps us on the straight and narrow path? What keeps us from listening to our animal instincts and jumping into the realm of pleasure?
The preacher continues, they will get their reward. But it has to be more than fear that keeps us from pleasure, as I would venture that the pull for pleasure is stronger than the resistence because of fear.
It has to be because of love for Him and his ways. In order to love, we have to believe. We have to know that he is watching us, and we as a son/daughter, dont wont to disappoint Him. Love is a bond, a glue, a magnet, that keeps us with him. We have to make sure our magnet is stronger than the other forces pulling us in the wrong directions.
