Good Summary of Chp 12

Acts 12.—Herod Agrippa was the father of Agrippa (Acts 25., 26.). He ruled over the whole of Palestine at this time. “Easter” is not a Bible festival. It should read, after the Passover. The disciples were greatly troubled. James was killed, Peter in prison; they could only pray, but prayer prevailed. Barnabas forms a connecting link between Peter, Paul and Mark. Rhoda was the maid-servant, no doubt also a sister. Would not the sister servants of our day like to open the door for an apostle? Rhoda means a rose, Susannah a lily, Esther (or rather Hadasseh) a myrtle, Tamar a palm. They believed in a guardian angel watching over each believer, and we should suppose expected the announcement of Peter’s death. James, the Lord’s brother, and the writer of the Epistle of James, the brother of John, had been killed (verse 2). Righteous Peter was saved, now Herod must be punished.
