Chapter 23 verse 13 and 14 are interesting verses. The reason they were to carry a paddle was to dig a hole to bury their feces. The chore was done so that the camp would be holy so that The Lord God would be able to walk in the midst of the camp. Should God see an unclean thing He would turn from them. Therefore it was very important that everyone obey this command.
