There appear to be five portions in the Song, the first ending at 2:7; the second at 3:5; the third at 6:9; the fourth at 8:4; the fifth, forming a kind of epilogue, terminates the Book. The first two portions end with the same words, and the last three begin with the same words, hence it is natural to infer that there is a division intended. Now let us review the contents of the Song.

This closes the second portion of the Song, in which we see the coming of the beloved, but apparently not yet for the wedding. Either it is a preliminary visit, or the bride is not yet ready. He goes away, she dreams he is lost to her; she seeks him high and low, finds him and brings him home, from whence, in the third section, we have the marriage consummated.
