8 Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.
Here is an invitation to come out from the world and view the promised land —spiritually to contemplate the glories of God’s promised goodness “with me.” We want to be with Christ in all things. We start from snow-capped Lebanon, which Moses longed to see (Deut. 3:25). Amana is another mountain near Lebanon, Shenir and Hermon (see Deuteronomy 3:9; Ezekiel 27:5). See also Psalm 133:3, the Dew of Hermon which descends on Zion’s hill. Look down from these heights, as it were in the world yet not of it. Thus, disentangled from low-thoughted care, we see the hand of God in all things—even in the desolations which precede the final glory.
