Son 5:6 I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spake: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer. Son 5:7 The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me.
She arises hastily and opens the door, but he has gone; she calls, but he answers not. She wanders forth in search of him, but is found by the watchmen, who smite and wound, and the keepers of the wall, who (regarding her as an unfaithful wife) take away her bridal veil, and so she goes forth without the camp bearing his reproach (Hebrews 13:13). Surely here we have the attitude of those pseudo-watchmen, those dumb dogs who cannot bark, those who, while professing themselves Christian, have always persecuted the Church of Christ. 1900 Christadelphian: p369
