There are many other thoughts suggested by Solomon’s Song that are most profitable and encouraging to the people of Christ in these evil times. In the concluding chapter (8.) the Bride is seen with the Bridegroom coming up from the wilderness into the inheritance, like Israel of old. The allusion to Solomon’s vineyard (verse 11) reminds us of Christ’s parable of the vineyard and its basing upon the prophetic “song of my Beloved touching his vineyard” (Isa. 5.). It suggests the question, Are we more fruitful towards God than was the Israelitish vineyard of old? If not we are in a bad case. “The kingdom of God shall be taken from you and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof” (Matt. 21:43). Are we “bringing forth the fruits thereof”? Are we walking as units of that “holy nation” (1 Pet. 2:9), “showing forth the praises” of the heavenly “husbandman”? If this be our constant endeavour then the concluding words of the Song will voice our desires: “Make haste, my beloved.” “He that testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so come Lord Jesus.”—ED.
