ESV says "and to aspire to live quietly and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one."
We have so many more important things to be doing than to get caught up with the world around us. We also have so many things we can do with our own lives, things we need to correct, that we shouldnt be so eager to try and "take the splinter out of someone elses".
