'Scarlet,' like the lips themselves, can be used in two very different ways. Scarlet is sin (Is l:18 ; but throughout the sacrificial ordinances, scarlet is rather salvation from sin by the shedding of blood. Scarlet wool was used in the cleansing of the leper, and in the preparation of the red heifer water of purification (Lvl4:4-9;Nml9:6).
