(Judges 5.).—This is a perfect example of Hebrew poetry. Song is more natural to woman. Miriam, Hannah, Mary, have all left us beautiful songs. Deborah begins with Enoch’s prophecy (Jude 14), which Moses incorporated in his blessing (Deut. 33:2). Habakkuk alludes to it (3:3); Christ will fulfil it (Isa. 63:1, 10). White is said to have been the royal colour with the Jews. Herod clothed Christ in white, Pilate put on him a purple robe, both intending to mock his claim to be a King.
Verse 16.—Reuben seems not to have helped. “Unstable as water,” he shall not excel, said Jacob. None of the judges came from Reuben.
