I Agree! I'll throw a question out:
Jdg 13:18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?
We know some angels names (like Gabriel), what is the significance of this verse, ie why secret? (my margin says "wonderful" for secret, is that significant)?

This word Secret in the Hebrew is Piliy used twice in the Bible, translated secret in this verse but translated Wonderful in Psalm 139:6 “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain unto it.” (Psalm 139:6) David is speaking of the knowledge that God knows about David life. Undoubtedly the angle has a name but choose not to mention it because of the reason that Manoah wanted the name for – “we may do thee honour.” Who did the angel come for? It might not have been so apparent had he spoken in his own name. It was simply too much for Manoah to understand after all he says - "We shall surely die, because we have seen God." He may have giving honour to the angel instead of Yahweh. |
