Today we read - “Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” (2 Peter 3:4) It is so easy to develop this attitude to one degree or another - David in Psalms 10 through 14 shows us how easily man can slip into this greatest of sins. In Psalm 10:6 the wicked's thinking, it is good to say, “He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: For I shall never be in adversity.” Then to the next degree he continues in 10:11: “He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: He hideth his face; he will never see it.” in other words God is not interested, which becomes in a greater degree 10:13, “Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? He hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.” thinking that God will not judge’ and, ultimately to the ninth degree the fool says in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalm14:1). Obviously we wouldn't take this to the ninth degree but it is easy to see how the people of the world have worked this out in their hearts and we need to be careful not to become complacent in our lives to any degree.

As history has born out, error tends to slowly creep in, slowly escalating in degrees. like the example of the frog in hot water. you put the frog in and slowly heat it up and it stays in, but if you drop it directly into boiling water, it immediately jumps out.
