Here, then, is “the voice in the wilderness,” and the then present preparation of “the way of the Lord.” It was a voice in the wilderness in more ways than one. Literally it was a voice “in the wilderness of Judea,” and metaphorically it was a voice in the wilderness of Jewry, out of whose “dry ground” the “Plant of Renown” was springing. The “way of Yahweh” then being “prepared” was the Lord Jesus, manifested as the Son of God, and “the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world.” “I am the Way,” said he in his doctrine, “No man cometh unto the Father but by me.”
