What a wonderful chapter. This chapter is full of prophecy and of comfort for Yahweh's chosen people. Here are a couple of interesting points from The Ministry of the Prophets - Isaiah by brother Walker.
Verse 1 - "Isaiah having completed the historical details that occupy chapters 36-39, returns to the comforting of Zion in a prophecy of John the Baptist as the forerunner of Messiah, and as the preparer of His way. This prophecy is intimately related to that of chapter 35, where the rejoicing of Zion's wilderness is spoken of, and the revelation of "the glory of Yahweh and the excellency of our Elohim" (Ministry of the Prophets - Isaiah, page 525).
Verse 2 - "…her iniquity pardoned." As Bro. Walker notes (page 526), the Revised Version more correctly renders this phrase as "…her punishment accepted." We talked about this a bit during our readings and it seems to make sense in the context of Jerusalem having received "double for all her sins."
