By comparing verses 15 and 46, we see that the tribe of Benjamin was almost completely destroyed.
Verse 15: "And the children of Benjamin were numbered at that time out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, beside the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were numbered seven hundred chosen men." (There were about 26,700 men of war in Benjamin.)
Verse 46: "So that all which fell that day of Benjamin were twenty and five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valour." (About 25,000 were slain in the battle, with relatively few managing to escape.)
As we will see in tomorrow's readings, the remaining tribes realized how important it was to find wives for the few men of Benjamin who remained.
Chapter 21, Verse 17: "And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel."
