Isaiah 47:9 -- "But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments."
We have an interesting connection between this prophecy of Isaiah and the book of Ruth, which we have just finished reading. In a very short period of time, Naomi lost both of her children and her husband.
Ruth 1:3,5 -- "And Elimelech Naomi's husband died... And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband."
If we take the book of Ruth as a parable, then we see Israel's future prophesied. Israel, represented by Naomi sojourning in a strange land, would become desolate and forsaken. Christ, represented by Boaz, will redeem his bride, represented by Ruth, and will re-establish the Kingdom of God in fulfillment of the promises to Abraham.
The desolation of Israel was also prophesied by Jeremiah in Lamentations.
Lamentations 1:1-2 -- "How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary! She weepeth sore in the night, and her tears are on her cheeks: among all her lovers she hath none to comfort her: all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they are become her enemies."

Also in one day, Hophni and Phinehas died, and when Eli heard it he died, and then when Phinehas wife heard it she died... One day can bring a lot of change!
