Verses 1-2: "Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of Yahweh, and make mention of the Elohim of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness. For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the Elohim of Israel; Yahweh of armies is his name."
These verses make me think of when I visited Israel, and Jerusalem in particular. The inhabitants of Jerusalem today regard it as a holy city, but for all of the wrong reasons. The world sees the city as holy to Jews, Christians, and Muslims together. Among the Jews, there are some that "make mention of the Elohim of Israel," but as this verse says, it is not done in accordance with the truth or in righteousness. And there are yet others who are not religious at all, and believe that they have re-emerged as a powerful country because of Israel's national strength. They fail to recognize that it is Yahweh of armies who has allowed them to gather in the land, and who will very shortly fulfill the promises to their father Abraham.
