Matt 3:11 "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire"
Two Classes of people came to John's Baptisms:
First those who submitted to the baptism
Second, those who refused (ie Pharasee's, sadducees)
He shall baptize "you" (those who honored God by submitting to John's baptism) "with the Holy Spirit" AND
He shall baptize "you", who have rejected his counsel, in refusing to be baptized of me, "with fire"
Thus JOhn prophesies of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and under the metaphor of fire burning up the chaff, of the overwhelming destruction that was coming upon Jerusalem
