“Since the beginning of the world, men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath prepared for him that waiteth for him.” Paul, in 1 Cor. 2:9, connects “the things prepared of God for those that love him,” with “the Lord of Glory,” that is the Lord Jesus Christ; and argues that, though beyond the imagination of man, God had revealed these things to the apostles by the Spirit, of which, indeed, in his own person, he gave proof in the miracles he wrought in the name of Jesus. The “things prepared” are related to the covenants with the fathers and with David “concerning Christ.” This is the substance of all the Old Testament doctrine of eternal life.
