Verses 21-22: "Swear now therefore unto me by Yahweh, that thou wilt not cut off my seed after me, and that thou wilt not destroy my name out of my father's house. And David sware unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men gat them up unto the hold."
Years later, we learn that David kept Saul's request by sparing Mephibosheth, but we read that it was not for Saul's sake, but rather for Jonathan.
2 Samuel 21:7 - "But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Yahweh's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul."
